01/ 28/ 03 The Isle of Man, UK Welcomes the Cows!

Holy Cow! CowParade is coming to the Isle of Man this summer!

The largest art project the Island has ever seen will take place in 2003 - the cows will be coming to graze in our idyllic Island. The life-sized cows will be painted and decorated by youth and community groups all over the Island, raising money for the Golden Jubilee Trust. The trust is a charity established to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Man. The trust is concerned with citizenship - and what better gift for the community than herds of painted, costumed, festooned and creatively transformed cows on display in our streets, parks and landmarks from June 2003.

CowParade first began in Chicago in 1999, and both the 2000 CowParade in New York City and the 1999 CowParade in Chicago were widely touted as the most successful public art programmes in the cities' history. Over 44 million people viewed the New York event and the Chicago event generated nearly $500 million in economic impact.

Sponsor a Cow - Each cow has a sponsor. Corporations, community groups, and individuals can all sponsor a cow. By sponsoring, you are showing support for the charity and encouraging citizenship and co-operation between young people and the rest of the community. Sponsors will enjoy a range of other benefits, including your name on the base of the cow, marketing opportunities during the parade, media coverage and the chance to be part of this exciting event. You could also buy ‘your’ cow at the end of the event, and put it out to pasture in a place of your choice. Please contact us for more information.

Visit the Cows - The Isle of Man is a small Crown Dependency nestled in the Irish Sea. The Island has a long history of welcoming visitors with open arms; with its vibrant towns, traditional fishing communities, award winning museums and heritage sites and breathtaking scenery. To find out more about visiting the Isle of Man, see www.gov.im/tourism. The cows will be out to pasture from mid-June until the end of August. This period includes our unique ‘Tynwald Day’, or parliament day at which, in 2003, Her Majesty the Queen will preside.
