10/ 09/ 03 Record Charity Auction on the Isle of Man!
The CowParade Isle of Man live auction, held on October 9, 2003, raised a staggering 110,000 pounds. This was the largest sum raised from a charity auction in this small Island of some 70,000 residents' history. The auction, conducted by TV personality Tim Wonnacott in the presence of his Royal Highness Prince Andrew, exceeded everyone's wildest expectations.
The First Minister of the Isle of Man has been "udderly" amazed by the success of CowParade. "When I first heard of the the CowParade concept, I said "What!" I've come to realize it to be a really worthwhile project which embraces the community. The public's following of the cows around the Island has been incredible and the money raised at auction is testament to the quality of the product."
The auction benefited the Golden Jubilee Trust. The Golden Jubilee Trust was set up to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is His Excellency Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen, The Lieutenant Governor of The Isle of Man. The Golden Jubilee Trust was officially launched on Tynwald Day (5 July) in 2002. The charity aims to promote good citizenship within the Isle of Man with particular emphasis on the encouragement of young people to have a better understanding of the needs of society.
The Isle of Man Government began the fundraising process by making a generous donation. However, substantial funds are need and the charityÕs first major project will be CowParade Isle of Man 2003. Its objectives are to raise funds by including young people and the wider community in a project that will give enjoyment and the experience of achievement, whilst instilling a sense of citizenship. The funds raised from this project will be used initially to build a high ropes course, which will offer people the opportunity to work as a team in an adventure situation. It will be open to all who are interested in promoting teamwork within the community.
