THE LARGEST STAMPEDE IN THE WORLD
On February 21st of this year, one of the most revolutionary public art concepts was presented to the national press: CowParade. 19 cities around the world, including Zurich, Prague, Brussels, New York, Stockholm, Tokyo and Sydney have experienced this multicolored herd grazing in their parks and public gardens, created by artist such as painters Schnabel and Peter Max, architects Richard Meyer and Michel Graves, and many other of the most famous artists in the world.
WHAT IS COWPARADE?
CowParade is an international movement whose essential purpose is to gather funds for charitable organizations and education through the production of art work that is exhibited and later auctioned internationally. The resources generated are assigned to altruistic causes chosen by each country.
However not only the nobleness of the project has sparked the interest of the most important international media, including BBC, CNN, CBS, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, which have faithfully followed the parades around the world, or off the most powerful commercial brands on the planet that have sponsored the events. It is also the sparkle that it causes in each welcoming city, the influx of tourism that it provokes, along with the love awakened by these maternal polychromed cows that have stolen the hearts of 60 million spectators around the world.
HOW IS THE STAMPEDE PRODUCED?
CowParade has designed several life-size fiberglass cows, which become the canvas on which the artists paint, model or intervene with their artistic project. The chosen artists receive a sum for their creation and their work is presented in publications of the event and on the web page www.cowparade.com. Their signature reminds forever adhered on the base plaque.
The sponsoring trade marks can chose their own artists to design their cows. The 4,000 cows that have been produced to date have become the most coveted collectors item.
Mexico climbs on the band wagon of artistic cow production to join a group of the most modern cities in the world and very soon, from September to January, these cows, created by the most prestigious Mexican artists, will be placed strategically throughout Mexico City to be auctioned later in different countries for the benefit of Mexican charitable organizations. Ancient Tenochtitlan will be taken by surprise by the most colorful cattle grassing its streets, parks and gardens.
