01/ 17/ 02 The Cows have landed in South America!
There is a good news for Montevideo, Uruguay in 2002. It will be the first city in Latin America to present CowParade, the original parade of artistic cows of worldwide success and acclaim.
The event was officially announced to the media, art community and public at a press conference at the City Hall Blue Room on December 21, 2001 with great fanfare. At the press conference, the art community was invited to join the “herd” by Prof. Alicia Haber, artist asessor, and chief of art of Culture Department of the Montevideo City Hall, and Enrique Badaro Nadal, General Coordinator of Municipal Expositions Center.
In March of 2002, the blank cow sculptures will be given to selected artists. In May, the artists will return their finised art cows, and from June to August the cows will graze all over this great city.
A jury will choose the best bovine at the conclusion of the event. Members of the jury include Mrs. Cecilia Mattos, representaing APEU (Uruguayan Association of Painters and Sculpturers), Prof. Silvestre Peciiar, member of the National School of Beauty and Arts, and Architect Marcelo Gualano in the name of Architecture faculty of University of Uruguay.
In August, a live auction will take place at the big “live cows” exhibit, Prado Cattle Exhibition 2002. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to charity organizations that will be choosen by open poll by the artists.
